New Testament

From: TFTW Bible College Blood is also used to seal an agreement. You may have seen a Western movie where two Native Americans make a promise. They state what they agree to, then they cut their hands and clasp them together. They have sealed the agreement in blood. In the Old Testament, Moses used blood to seal the agreement the people made to obey the will of God. “ And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words. ” ( Exodus 24:7-8 ) As Jesus said, His blood would be for a new testament and would seal the agreement between God and man. Any man willing to obey God’s laws would get the sin-cleansing benefit of the blood of Jesus. A testament is sometimes called a “Last Will and Testament.” It is something that goes in

Jesus: The Perfect Sacrifice

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College Jesus is God as we have already seen. He came to Earth to live as a man. " And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. " ( John 1:14 ) The difference between His life and ours was that He lived perfectly, without sin. He did that to be an example and show us how to live, and also to offer Himself as the sacrifice of a perfect man. This was the exact sacrifice that man needed to repay God what He had lost. A man could then be at peace with God, even though he had rebelled against God.

Sacrifices for Sin

圖片
From: TFTW Bible Collge In the Old Testament, people rebelled against God’s commandments as we do today.  That is sin.  God told the Jews in the Old Testament what He wanted to be done by the people when this happened.  It involved a sacrifice.  It’s really no different than what we do today.  If I drive recklessly and crash into your car, you might ask for payment to cover the damages to your car.  I would then have to sacrifice my money to make up for the damage I caused. God told the Jews in the Old Testament to sacrifice part of what they had after they had rebelled against Him and sinned. Those sacrifices could involve animals. So, the goat that would be sacrificed would be the one to pay for the sins of man. It wasn’t the goat’s fault, but it had to take the blame. It was a scapegoat! The animal was not the sin, but it was an offering, a sacrifice, to pay the penalty for sins. The problem, however, was that these sacrifices couldn’t really take away the sin completely. The sins

Saved By Grace Only?

圖片
From: TFTW Bible Collge Some believe there is no way we can be righteous in the sight of God because they think we are born evil and have “original sin.” Also, if one believes we do not have freewill because God’s authority will not allow it, which is false, then we could not be righteous even if we wanted to be. Therefore, some may say that God’s grace allows the righteousness of Jesus to be “draped over you.” That means you are not really righteous, but you just  appear  to be righteous because you have the righteousness of Jesus imputed to you and draped over you.  But, as we have seen, the imputation we see in the Bible says that you are righteous when  you choose  to be righteous. “ Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. ” ( 1 John 3:7 ) “Righteousness” is defined as the commandments of God. “ My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness. ” ( Psalm 119:172 ) Therefore, when we

Imputation on Christ?

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College This idea is that all the sins of the world were imputed to Jesus on the cross, and He became the worst sinner ever.  This contradicts the Bible’s teachings that Jesus was a perfect sacrifice. If Jesus became a sinner because He had our sin imputed onto Him, He is no longer a perfect man, and therefore He is not a perfect sacrifice. If that is true, we have no payment for our sins and we are all lost. When Jesus was offered to God, He was a sacrifice “ without spot ,” meaning He had no sins. “ How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? ” ( Hebrews 9:14 ) This incorrect idea may also stem from a misunderstanding of a Bible verse. “ For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. ” ( 2 Corinthians 5:21 ) Jesus is made to “ be sin ” for us does not mean He literally became

Can I Inherit Sin?

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College There is such a thing as imputation according to God, but God makes it clear that the responsibility falls upon the shoulders of the individual. “ The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. ” ( Ezekiel 18:20 ) If I sin, it is because I choose to sin, not because someone else sinned or because God made me sin. If I sin, then I bear the spiritual consequences of that sin. I do not have to bear the spiritual consequences of the sins of other people, and other people do not have to bear the spiritual consequences of my sin. It is true that I might have to suffer the  physical  consequences of the sins of others. A drunk driver may crash into a loved one and take them from me. In that case, someone else made a sinful choice and I suffered the consequences from i

Do We Inherit Sin?

From: TFTW Bible College Once King David had Solomon anointed and set up as the new king, Adonijah was in trouble and feared for his life. He did not want to be killed for trying to take over the throne. But the new king, Solomon, gave him a choice. “ And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. ” ( 1 Kings 1:52 ) Did Solomon have all authority as king? Yes. Did that stop him from giving Adonijah a choice? No. Adonijah was fearful for his life, but Solomon basically said, “Be good, and you will live. Be bad, and you will die.” Sound familiar? It’s the same dilemma man finds himself in. We have rebelled against the King of Heaven and found ourselves worthy of death. But, the merciful King says, “If you will repent and be good and obey me, you may live. If you choose to be bad and go against my laws, you will die and be separated from me.”  Our choice in no way negates the

From  Focuspress:  August 19, 2020,   by  Jack Wilkie Men and women are different, therefore transgenderism must be rejected. Most of us have watched with disbelief as our nation has debated transgenderism over the past decade. We’ve watched the debate over “dead names” and pronouns. We’ve seen “transgender women” (biological men) be allowed to compete against women athletically and dominate, to no one’s surprise. We’ve argued over who should use what bathroom. No matter how much some want to bend reality to be whatever they want it to be, men cannot become women and women cannot become men. God created them male and female (Genesis 5:2). Nearly all Christians would agree on this point. Men and women are different, and they were given different roles in the church. Just because one doesn’t  feel  like God would assign different roles for men and women, and just because one can rip Galatians 3:28 out of context and make it contradict the rest of the Bible’s teaching on the matter, it do

What it Means to be "Lost"

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College The story of the Prodigal Son, or a lost boy, in the Bible ( Luke 15:11-32 ) is an analogy of the plight of man. In the story, the son rebels against his father’s way of life, takes his portion of his inheritance and goes and wastes it. He then finds himself alone and starving and without his family. He is lost. He then decides to go and apologize to the Father and ask if he could just be a servant in his father’s house. Once he repents, apologizes, and says he wants to live according to his father’s rule of the house, the father shows him great mercy. The father welcomes him back with open arms and holds a celebration. When talking to the other son who did not leave, the father states, “ It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. ” ( Luke 15:32 ) Just as the prodigal son was lost because he rebelled against his father’s house and wanted to live his own way, man is lost wh

Results of Sin

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College God had told Adam and Eve that the consequences of that sin would be death. The word “death” simply means “a separation.” In physical death, the soul separates from the physical body. “ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. ” ( James 2:26 ) In spiritual death, it means a separation from God. Since God is holy and perfect, He cannot have sin in His presence. “ Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. ” ( Isaiah 59:1-2 ) The word “ iniquities ” is another word for “sins.” It really means “lawlessness.” When you don’t obey the laws, you are “lawless” or an “outlaw.” When we go beyond God’s laws and sin, we are ignoring God’s laws, which makes us “lawless.” God does not desire to be separated from us, but when we practice iniquity,

What is Sin?

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College God is a just God. He is capable of delivering perfect justice to us without prejudice. “ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. ” ( Acts 10:34-35 ) Therefore, God will not condemn someone for disobeying something they were incapable of understanding. Those that sin are those who are old enough and mentally capable enough to be able to understand the laws of God.  Not everyone old enough and mentally capable enough  knows  the laws of God. That is why we teach people. People need to know God’s laws so they can obey them and be found pleasing to Him. So, how many of those that are old enough and mentally capable enough of understanding God’s laws have sinned? Everyone. “ For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ” ( Romans 3:23 ) The idea of “coming short” is like the one who throws his dart at the ta

Silence of the Scriptures

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College Just because the Bible is silent on something does not make it authorized. Instead,  it makes it unauthorized! Look at the example of Nadab and Abihu again. “ And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. ” ( Leviticus 10:1-2 ) Notice the Bible records they did something “which he commanded them not.” God was specific on a certain kind of fire and silent on others. When God specifies something and is silent on other things relevant to that issue, then the silence does not authorize, it forbids!  Remember that Abel’s offering was pleasing to God because he had done it by faith. " By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: a

Approved Example

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College          By “approved example,” we mean that God obviously approves of it because the Holy Spirit inspired the writers to record it happening and there is no mention of God’s disapproval. If the Holy Spirit had it recorded for posterity, it is done by Christians in the first century, and there is no teaching in the Bible that God did not approve of it, and we can emulate it in the current century, then it is an approved example. Remember that God is immutable and does not change due to outside forces. If we can read in the Bible that Christians did it in the first century and God is not shown to be disapproving of it, then we should do it in the current century. Keep in mind that it must be something we   can   emulate. Some things done in the first century are impossible for us today, such as performing miracles. One approved example we read about is Christians coming together to worship God on the first day of the week. Remember under the Mosaical Dispensatio

Implicit Statements

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College Implicit statements are not directed to anyone specifically but can be implied to include people. Unlike an explicit statement that says something directly, an implication is something that is suggested. Jesus gave an example of an implicit statement. “ He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. ” ( Mark 16:16 ) Notice that Jesus did not say, “John Smith, or Mary Jones, should believe and be baptized and be saved.” He did not explicitly say anyone’s name. Instead, he suggested that if someone wanted to be saved, they should believe and be baptized. Even though we are not named specifically, we are included in the implication. If anyone wants to be saved, they should believe and be baptized. That includes me or anyone else. Jesus simply said the person who does these things will be saved. Expediency Vs. Addition

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College Expediency helps us carry out the action that is authorized in a more efficient way. An addition causes us to do something besides the authorized action. To make sure we are not doing something in addition to the authorized action, we can ask ourselves some simple questions: Is what I am doing an aid in carrying out the authorized action? By doing this, am I now doing a separate action in addition to the authorized statement? For example:  The New Testament authorizes singing to God " Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; "  ( Ephesians 5:19 ).  " Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. "  ( Colossians 3:16 )  Using a song book would be an aid to carry out the authorized action. It does not create a separate action. When I

Explicit Statements

圖片
From: TFTW Bible College Explicit statements might be either 1) general, or 2) specific.  For example, God gave Noah some specific instructions about building an ark. “ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. ” ( Genesis 6:13-15 ) Jesus gave an example of a general explicit statement.  “ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. ” ( Matthew 28:19-20 ) Jesus explici
