Revelation 2:18-20 - Zest
By Jimmy Lau
And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Thyatira reminds us of liberal churches. Liberal churches have strong church programmes, lots of love, fantastic outreach, and are fast growing like Thyatira. But liberal churches are children of “Jezebel” who are destined for destruction (v.23) because they do not follow the teachings of Christ and the apostles. They may proclaim they have done lots of things in the name of Jesus but our Lord will tell them: “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23).
Brethren, our zeal must be according to the knowledge of God (Romans 10:2). Great works matter little when they are not the works approved by God. Thyatira has great zeal but a misplaced one. They are serving the devil and not God.
