Sin - the Greek words

From: Vine NT Sin A. Nouns. 1.  hamartia  ( G266 ) is, lit., "a missing of the mark," but this etymological meaning is largely lost sight of in the NT. It is the most comprehensive term for moral obliquity . It is used of "sin" as  (a) a principle or source of action, or an inward element producing acts , e.g.,  Rom 3:9 ;  Rom 5:12 ,  Rom 5:13 ,  Rom 5:20 ;  Rom 6:1 ,  Rom 6:2 ;  Rom 7:7 (abstract for concrete);  Rom 7:8  (twice),  Rom 7:9 ,  Rom 7:11 ,  Rom 7:13 , "sin, that it might be shown to be sin," i.e., "sin became death to me, that it might be exposed in its heinous character": in the last clause, "sin might become exceeding sinful," i.e., through the holiness of the Law, the true nature of sin was designed to be manifested to the conscience; (b) a governing principle or power , e.g.,  Rom 6:6 , "(the body) of sin," here "sin" is spoken of as an organized power, acting through the members of...

Remarrying the first spouse

This post is holding the opposite conclusion from my previous post :  Repentance After Unbiblical Divorce   Below are quotations from:  1. Glenn A. Jobe, Is covenant-breaking adultery?, Marriage, Divorce, and remarriage, Jim Laws, Spiritual Sword Lectureship director in Memphis, TN, Oct 18-22, 1992.  2. Gary Workman, Key Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 7:1-40, Jim Laws, Spiritual Sword Lectureship director in Memphis, TN, Oct 18-22, 1992.  Can remarry the first spouse who sinned on fornication? Woman A who puts away Man B for fornication may later take him back when there has been no intervening marriage to act as a barrier of such. They are simply restoring what they once had.  Repentance on his part is surely a must and total forgiveness is must on her part. Hosea took Gomer back. God takes back those who have committed spiritual adultery and have broken their marriage vows to him upon repentance, prayer and confession — His second law of pardon . ...

Can we forgive a non-Christian's specific sin?

Talk with T.A. on FB: Question 1:  Before a man obeys the gospel, does he owe and offend God’s grace since Jesus sacrificed for all of us? Did we offend God before we were added to the church, and therefore also offend the children of God? If a sin offends God, wouldn’t it also offend us Christians?     Answer:  Yes, mankind does offend God by sin. God is our Creator and He did not create us to sin. However, He did give us free will. We choose whether to do good or evil. However, you and I did not create anyone. Another person's sins may offend me but not necessarily directed towards me.   It is true that all sin should offend the Christian, but mainly sin is against the values that God desires for His Creation. Inasmuch as all of us have sinned, I don't think we can take the sins of others personally unless they are directed toward us. Me: I see. At most their disbelief offends us indirectly, unless they are angry at us after we preach them the gospel? T.A.: ...
