Singing Praises To God

Jimmy Lau

Today, we are living in “strange lands”. The world is in a pandemic. And the pandemic has changed the world. It has changed the world in the way it used to conduct its businesses, social activities, and religions. Currently, we are prevented from congregating and singing together. Should we be in the mood for singing praises to God?

The answer is an astounding YES! God loves to hear us sing. Solomon says: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

This year may well be the season for the COVID-19 pandemic. We don’t know why it comes nor when it will go away. Yet, though we are sad, we still have so much to be thankful for. In fact, the most important thing we should do in the middle of any crisis is to praise God. Paul and Silas sang praises to God while in a prison in Philippi (Acts 16:25).

Praises to God shouldn’t stop because of a pandemic. On the contrary, we need God more than ever: “The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9).

The world needs God more than ever. If we survive the pandemic, it is because of God’s blessings. And, if we perish, we have a better place prepared for us (John 14:3).
