Only One temple in Jesus' time
In Jesus’ time, there was only one Temple in Jerusalem, where all sacrifices were offered according to the Law of Moses.
Although there were many synagogues throughout the land for prayer, teaching, and reading Scripture, the Temple still held a unique and sacred position—for certain feast days, such as Passover, Pentecost, and the Feast of Tabernacles, the Law required the people to go up to Jerusalem to worship.
Jesus’ ministry called and prepared people to receive the Law of Christ.
The Old Covenant ceased, and the New Covenant took effect at the cross, when His blood was shed. From that moment on, worship is to be offered “in spirit and in truth” through the gospel of Christ.
The true temple is no longer a building but those who follow Christ and keep His word.
God’s Spirit dwells in them through His word—as they obey and live by it, His Spirit shapes their hearts and actions.
The destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in A.D. 70 only confirmed historically what had already been fulfilled spiritually in Christ.
